NO ONLY evolution (what is it?)

NO ONLY evolution (what is it?)

Lane's No Only, developed with Nic Adams, Fernando Gonzalez, and Sophie Zmorrod, has morphed much over the last year–though that's sort of always been the story of the piece.

First, it was just a question mark (as all infant shows are); then a reading in a Brooklyn apartment (thank you, inimitable hosts Laura Barati and Danny Ursetti!); the trajectory had been toward some kinda other intimate-space, theatrical presentation–pet store? under-renovation brownstone?–but then swerved to an album; then serialized music videos (or something?).

Here's what we made to survive while a virus scourged the earth:

Now–over the course of the last six weeks–the entirety of the audio of the existing B & L has been recorded. Nic, Sophie, Fernando, and Lane turned a studio apartment into recording booths, and documented where the musical that began in late 2018 has landed. The intention next is to take a camera to the audio, be in a space together, and do...something something.

The next video, and–a preview of some kind of evolution. Not much directed intention has always been the appropriate path for the piece, freeing in the current artistic environment where theater is undefined, or undergoing redefinition. These possibilities were always here, but we hereby foist ourselves on them in response to their having foisted themselves on us.
