In the search for what to do with No Only, Nic and Lane invited Leonie Bell and Brian Hendricks to animate and illustrate, respectively. Beginning in the summer of 2022, they asked: what sort of story can be made by combining the music and words that'd been developed (with Sophie Zmorrod and Fernando Gonzalez) with images? Like much of the history of the musical, the goal wasn't clear–but the process was processful.

Come winter, Sophie and Fernando were brought into the room–along with lighting designer Christina Yang. A sitzprobe realized the show in a live form again for the first time since late 2019, and–also a first–the performers were given props. Costume designers were invited (along with Target Margin artistic director David Herskovitz, who's theater's space we were gratefully renting) to witness, and the show became more embodied than ever before.
